FAIR WORK FIRST

At Crawick Multiverse, we are committed to progressing the criteria set out in the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First policy and ensuring that we have in place fair working practices. On a day-to-day basis we aim to operate as a Fair Work employer for the benefit of our team and all those who work alongside us.

ABOUT FAIR WORK FIRST

Fair Work First is the Scottish Government’s policy for driving high quality and fair work in Scotland by applying fair work criteria to grants, other funding and contracts being awarded by and across the public sector.

Through this approach the Scottish Government asks employers to adopt fair working practices relating to:

  • payment of at least the real Living Wage
  • appropriate channels for effective workers’ voice
  • investment in workforce development
  • no inappropriate use of zero hours contracts
  • action to tackle the gender pay gap and create a more diverse and inclusive workplace
  • flexible and family friendly working practices
  • the use of fire and rehire practices

FAIR WORK PRACTICES AT CRAWICK MULTIVERSE

The Crawick Multiverse Trust (The Trust) is a fair work employer and applies fair working practices in all aspects of its operations.

REAL LIVING WAGE

  • All staff are paid the real Living Wage rate or above.
  • Where contracts are issued to third-party service providers, there is an expectation to pay the real Living Wage to their employees and contractors.
  • The Trust is committed to being a real Living Wage employer and gained Living Wage accreditation from Living Wage Scotland in 2024.

APPROPRIATE CHANNELS FOR EFFECTIVE WORKERS’ VOICE

  • The Trust promotes open communication, trust and transparency within the organisation.
  • The Trust openly encourages the sharing and acceptance of different views in a safe and supportive environment.
  • The Trust has a small Executive Team and encourages informal one-to-one, and group, communication. Feedback and new ideas are always welcome to ensure all members of the team feel valued and listened to.
  • The Board of Trustees and the Executive Team have a mutual respect for each other and enjoy a close and supportive working relationship. Regular team meetings and scheduled Board Meetings provide appropriate and regular channels for shared communication.
  • Staff are welcome to join a trade union if they wish, without detriment.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

  • Staff are actively encouraged to develop their skills, experience and knowledge and the Trust has a dedicated training budget to invest in workforce development.
  • Induction and review procedures are in place to support employees.
  • Formal and informal learning opportunities are offered across the organisation, relating to particular roles and responsibilities or to address business or personal development.
  • The Trust invests in accredited training in areas such as Health and Safety and First Aid at Work and informal development relating to work roles including social media, data management, customer service, management, administration and IT.
  • Staff are encouraged to attend online webinars and conferences that are relevant to their role or provide networking opportunities and wider benefits to the staff member, team or organisation.
  • Colleagues are encouraged to share their skills and knowledge with each other and to act as a mentor to support the ongoing development of colleagues whenever possible.

ZERO HOURS CONTRACTS

  • The Trust does not employ staff on zero hour contracts.
  • The Trust aims to be a reputable employer by providing fair work and employment opportunities to support the local economy.

ACTION TO TACKLE THE GENDER PAY GAP AND CREATE A MORE DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE

  • The Trust offers a workplace environment which is inclusive and values diversity.
  • The Trust is committed to advancing equality of opportunity in all aspects of its activities.
  • The Trust offers a good rate of pay to all employees based on their role and performance, regardless of gender.

FLEXIBLE AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY WORKING

  • The Trust is a family-friendly employer and aims to be an employer of choice.
  • Flexible working is encouraged across the organisation, subject to business need, to enable a good work-life balance and encourage positive health and wellbeing.
  • Whenever possible, The Trust offers flexibility and support to help employees balance their personal (health, family, social or study) needs with the needs of the business.
  • The Trust operates a flexible rota system with fair scheduling and shift patterns.

FIRE AND REHIRE PRACTICES

  • The Trust does not in any way operate fire and rehire practices.
  • The Trust has a good track record in retaining core staff and employs contractors to deliver fixed-term projects and additional support as required.
