The Coalface at Crawick Multiverse has been chosen as a 2022 Regional Finalist for the Civic Trust Awards. The scheme was established in 1959 to recognise outstanding architecture, planning and design in the built environment.

As one of 90 projects selected worldwide, it will now be reviewed by the National Judging Panels to determine the final list of National & International Civic Trust Award & Highly Commended Winners.
The Coalface will also be considered for the Selwyn Goldsmith Awards – Recognising Universal Design excellence in the built environment since 2011.

This is wonderful recognition for the building designed by sustainable building specialists Sam Booth and Maggie Savage of Echo Living.
The Coalface cleverly repurposes three containers to house the Crawick Multiverse office and ticket kiosk, storage room and toilet facilities around a multi use covered courtyard.
The Echo Living team constructed the majority of the building at their workshop in Dumfries and Galloway then transported it to site to complete the build.
The building is clad with untreated larch, detailed in checkerboard allowing for shorter timber lengths (that reduce waste) and has a sedum covered roof.
